u16s narrow loss in Cup 1/4 final

Sunday saw the squad again on their travels on cup business heading north to Ellon, a side with a strong record this season so a tough game was expected and so it proved.

With conditions near perfect for rugby the early stages of the match saw Ellon dominate using their line out and driving maul to good effect scoring two good tries in the opening 20 minutes. However the boys didn't panic and good rugby saw them peg the hosts back with Jamie scoring after a strong run, before Adam scored a cracking try running the ball in from half way. With Mark converting the boys turned round at half time 10 v 12 up

Ellon came back strongly at the start of the second half and went ahead with a try in the far corner. Back on attack and a little more composure from Dunfermline on Ellon's 5m might of resulted in a score but the boys were turned over and Ellon added a fourth try to go 8 pts in front. Again back came Dunfermline and turnover ball saw the backs move the ball quickly for Chris to score in the corner. With Mark getting the conversion it was game on, however despite a huge effort by the boys in the last 10 mins they just fell short. Final score Ellon 20 v 19 Dunfermline.

In the end so near but .... Whilst they may not feel it at the moment, the boys should take a lot of pride for their efforts today and in the earlier cup matches for the way they have played (the travelling 'Dunfy Army' certainly appreciated the effort and performance on show).
