There is an old saying, forwards win games, backs decide by how much. Very true but to win you need them all to be working as team. Today's win was just that a great team performance with each player contributing on the day to produce a win against a big Kirkcady team who themselves had been winning regularly in recent weeks.
Playing up the slope and into the wind first half, Dunfermline weathered an early Kirkcaldy storm before producing some excellent rugby taking the ball through several phases to score opening try by Dougie. Kirkcaldy however continued to press and altho defence held firm the penalty count was increasing and eventually Kirkcaldy scored an equalising try under the posts. More pressure then had to be dealt with as dropped balls and knock ons had possession too easiliuy to Kirkcaldy. However the defence held firm with both lineout and scrum functioning well. Dunfermline finished the half stronger and scored a second try from Jordi after a patient build up running the ball thru several phases.
The second half saw Dunfermline initially camped in the Kirkcaldy's 22 with first Jordi adding a score after a quick tap penalty before he combined with Chris to send him clear into space of a scrum pick up. Chris then beat the final three defenders to score in the corner. A strong run by Brian almost added the fifth but good defence saw him tackled just short before Adam kicked on a loose ball and won the chase to add the fifth. A clever cross field kick gave Kirkcaldy their second score with their centre winning the chase to the ball and outrunning the defence. The Dunfy forwards tho had the final say with a pick and go from Danny on the 22 saw Dougie take the offload to score his second. With Mark adding two conversions final score 34 v 12.
Overall a really good game of rugby between the two teams, with the under 16's continuing to grow in confidence each week.
Thankyou to Kirkcaldy for the game and hospitality afterwards. Well done to Adam for his man of the match award. Training as usual this week, next sunday we are at home .... finally .... to Glenrothes.
C u all then
