And we are off .... after pre season the under 16's welcomed Marr to McKane for the opening game in the new cross border league.
We have suffered some bad luck with injuries in recent weeks so it was good to welcome both Ryan and Brian to bolster the squad today.
In dry but windy conditions, Dunfermline kicked off into the wind and were immediately on the back foot and under pressure, losing the first try within 2 minutes. They came back into the game and a promising move saw the squad deep into the 22 however a knock on led to a turnover. And this proved to be the story of the game, with the u16s never really getting going and suffered from losing possesion and territory at times too easily. The second half saw an intially more even contest with Dunfermline in Marr's half much more however a couple of breakouts led to further Marr scores and put the game beyond our reach,
In all, Marr scored seven tries, doing the basics well and moving the ball when they had the chance, particulalry going blindside. Our score came courtesy of a late break by Criag and pass to Brian, who ran in to score our first try in the league this season.
Thanks to everyone who came down to watch the game. Its good to be playing again. As we know this league is going to be a challenge for the boys this season; they have the ability, just need to believe in themselves. Watch out for news on training this week. Plenty to work on in the coming days/weeks.
Squad: Ryan, Scott, Danny, Davie, Curtis, Ross, Jamie, Jordan, Craig, Cormac, Adam, Chris, Brian, Callum; Euan, Chris and Mark
Final score: 5 v 41
