Dunfermline P4 at Kinross

Opening game against hosts, Kinross, proved to be a close one!
A full squad of 10 players, seen plenty of game time for everyone involved and a total of 19 tries scored for Dunfermline throughout the day!

Kinross 5 – 4 Dunfermline

The hosts were just able to scrape a victory against Dunfermline in an exciting opener to the Tournament!

Dunfermline’s first try came through William Moran, following the opening score form Kinross Dunfermline were back in the game as the scores were tied.
Kinross scored two crucial tries to extend their lead by 2. Within as many minutes Dunfermline bounced back with two tries of their own through Callum Ferguson and William Moran.

Kinross eventually extended their lead to a formidable 5-3 lead.
A try in the final minute of the game seen the score finish with just one try between the two teams.
William Moran scoring his hat-trick try in the dying minutes of the game displayed Dunfermline’s fortitude.

A solid first performance from the team in a rather close game.

Dunfermline 8 – 6 Perthshire

A try-fest thriller for Dunfermline’s first successful game at Kinross.

Dunfermline score the first try of the game with Matthew Gracie flying through the opposition defence with some fancy footwork to eventually cross the line.
Following a Perthshire try, from the restart the ball cycled through the hands of Rebuen MacLeod and Niamh Mathieson to finish with Liam Stephens running in for his first try of the day.

Try scoring machine in Dunfermline’s opening game, William Moran crossed the line for his fourth of the day with a run straight through the opposition defence.

Callum Ferguson found himself stepping through the gaps to score twice within the closing minute of the game.

Come the final three minutes of the game Conall Burns scored a try per minute to secure a Dunfermline lead and a hat trick to his name.

Dunfermline 3 – 8 Mackie

Mackie proved to be formidable opponents.

The game started off tough with Mackie scoring twice in the opening minutes.
Dunfermline fought back with Liam Stephens finding space down the left wing breaking through the grasp of defenders to score his second try of the tournament.

Mackie continued their running spree with some big ball carries that shown to be a valuable asset to their game.

Dunfermline were not out of the game however, runs from Georgios Tachtatzis and Reuben MacLeod gained important metres in the build up to a try for Callum Ferguson who topped of the play.

Matthew Gracie would extent Dunfermline’s score to 3 with a carry through the Mackie defenders and score his second of the day.

Alas, Mackie were well drilled and despite a gutty performance from both teams, Mackie prevailed the victors.

Dunfermline 3 – 3 Livingston

This match was down to the wire.

Dunfermline score from the off, with the ball rolling through the hands of Matthew Gracie and George Franklin before reaching Callum Ferguson who finished the play to put Dunfermline in the lead.

Trading possession in and out with Livingston, the score was 1-1 before Conall Burns found some space and was able to cross the line halfway through the game to bring Dunfermline back in the lead.

Livingston scored twice in the remaining minutes to take a 2-3 lead against Dunfermline.

Dunfermline shown prosper in the last minute, Niamh Mathieson made a thumping tackle which allowed possession to fall into the hands of Matthew Gracie who ran in to score the final score in the game.

A vital whole game performance from the team to finish with a draw against a challenging Livingston outfit.

Dunfermline 4 (4) – (5) 3 Hillfoots

A bit of confusion around the final result of this game.

Following the match, the official called both coaches over and admitted to “phasing out” during the game. Having followed the game myself and written down the scores as they went on in the game (to allow more precise match reports). I had the final score down as 4-3 to Dunfermline. The Hillfoots coach admitted that they were not keeping track of the scores.
The official revealed the final score as Dunfermline 4 – 5 Hillfoots, as written on the scoresheet provided from the official themselves.

The agreement was mutual to allow the official’s final score to be the decisive one.

Hillfoots proved to be a tough game for Dunfermline.

It was Dunfermline to score first through George Franklin, who ran down the side bursting through the tackles of some opposition players to score the opening try of the game.

William Moran scores another two tries to his name and adds his total tally to 6 tries in this tournament.

Corey Zaczek shown his own running intent with a couple of runs up the pitch providing a platform for Liam Stephens to score his third try.

The final result of the game is still a blur.

The tournament altogether seen further improvements in the depth of the team.
Bringing a full squad of 10 players to Kinross looks promising for the future of the team.

Every player involved deserves credit for their contribution to the team.

Player of the Day:

This week’s player of the day is yet another tough decision.
Every player performed showing great skill and determination.
Notable performances all round from William Moran, Matthew Gracie and Conall Burns.
However, Dunfermline’s player of the day goes to Callum Ferguson.

Callum got his name on the scoreboard in all but one game!
Not to mention tireless efforts to make tackles and run from deep to get Dunfermline on the front foot.
