Tournament Runners Up! Well done Kids!!

Dunfermline A’s Match Reports

The first of today’s matches saw Dunfermline A take on McLaren. Four tries from Angus Colston and one from Jamie Hance saw us take a 5-2 lead before McLaren started to give a good account of themselves. Two turnovers, one each from Callum Leeson and Ellie-Ann Clarke were big contributions to the game which also saw Callum run in 2 tries of his own as we eventually closed out the game as 7-5 victors.

Next up were Crieff. In a quick, free-flowing and excellently refereed encounter Jamie Hance put us one up, and then 2-1 up as his second try took the wind out of Crieff’s sails, as it immediately followed their equaliser. Jamie and Callum Leeson then added further tries, whilst an unfortunate knock-on saw what would have been a hat-trick of tries for Jamie denied. Crieff rallied briefly, but Callum added a further 2 tries to seal a comfortable 6-3 win.

A very good Kinross side were up next in an excellent match that saw Kinross take the lead 3 times, only for us to doggedly peg them back each time. At various stages Dunfermline found themselves 3-1, 4-3 and 5-4 down. But tries from Jamie Smith, Angus Colston, and a Jamie Hance brace saw the score at 5-4, only for the magnificent Callum Leeson to drive over at the corner for a late, but deserved equaliser. Callum suffered s sore one on the left knee for his efforts, but managed to play on in the next match.

An unconventional, scrappy game against Hillfoots followed, in which they seemed to be the beneficiaries of many advantage calls from a referee that put more emphasis on letting the game flow rather than applying the laws of the game. Much to the chagrin of Monsieur Juan, offsides, high tackles and our lads being grabbed by their jerseys and unceremoniously spun to the ground went largely unpunished as Hillfoots raced to a 2-0 lead, before Ellie-Ann Clarke and Callum Leeson both crossed the try line to ensure a 2-2 draw, which in turn ensured our place in the final versus Dunfermline B.

The final was a pretty one-sided affair, and saw Angus Colston run in two late consolations as Dunfermline B eased to a comfortable 5-2 win.

However, whilst we all concentrate on the tries scored these would not be possible without the hard work done by the players in the lead up to them. There was some excellent tackling going on today. A thumping, well timed tackle from Jamie Hance whilst 1-0 down to Hillfoots saved a certain try. Other notable tacklers were Ellie-Ann Clarke, Angus Colston and the magnificent Callum Leeson, who I’m sure, would tackle a Chieftain Tank if you asked him to!
