A wee bit of a wake-up call, but great hosts!

Dunfermline “Light Blues” match report.

The intoxication of dominating displays at Murrayfield and Kinross was well and truly erased today as the light blues suffered a very sobering thumping at the hands of a well organised, hard tackling Currie team, who in the first game had scored 2 tries before you could blink. Our defending seemed abstract, and our opponents took full advantage of this and had ran up a further 3 scores before Jamie Hance crossed the line to make it 5-1. Some very narrow defending allowed Currie to make it 6-1 by half time. A further two tries from Jamie could not stem the relentless Currie tide and they ran out deserved 11-3 winners. This match saw Callum Leeson and Matthew Verrecchia both take heavy challenges resulting in them being subbed, but to their credit they both played on after recovering.
Our second game was a tighter affair as our lads seemed to pay heed to the instructions from Stewart and Patrick. The ever-dependable Callum Leeson crossed the try-line early on and so begun a see-sawing match which saw Joe White twice run the length of the pitch on angled runs then superbly hand-off to Callum and Jamie who then crossed the line to put us 3-1 up. Lackadaisical defending was the order of the day however, and some poor tackling allowed Currie to go 5-4 up before Callum made it 5 apiece at half time. Currie though then put their foot on the gas and ran in 4 unanswered tries to win comfortably 9-5.

Make no mistake, Currie were excellent today, and I’m sure this will serve as good experience for our boys. They won’t want to be on the receiving end of these kind of results again, and I can only say that I’m glad that it won’t be me out there on the park at training on Sunday!
