Just like the first fixture between Dunfermline and GHA S1s earlier in the season, the return match proved to be a high quality affair with some well worked tries from both sides.
And just like the first match, Dunfermline's squad were stetched through injury and unavailability, so we took to the field with Gregor Mitchell from the S2s filling in at full back as a last minute (age legal) addition to the squad.
GHA opened the scoring through some elusive running, before Dunfermline worked their way into the game with an improved rucking performance and some very determined tackling. We seemed to knock GHA out of their stride a little, and quickly managed to snuff out their attack, before attacking ourselves and scoring good tries through Kian, Gregor and Charlie, Gregor kicking all the conversions. GHA came back at us at the end of the half with a turnover from a Dunfermline attack, resulting in another fine score under the posts.
Half Time GHA 7 - 12 Dunfermline
The second half saw GHA continue to threaten with good handling through their backs, scoring three good tries in response to two tries (from Duncan and Kian) for Dunfermline. Errors were creeping into our game, and despite Dunfermline creating good chances, the decision making and execution let us down all too often. With the score just a single point in our favour, the Dunfermline boys re-focussed and showed the quality of which they are capable, scoring three unanswered tries, the pick of the bunch being a sweeping move through the full backline, with Kian threatening the defence before releasing Finlee with a perfectly timed pass, who easily skipped past the scrambling defence.
Full Time GHA 19 - 30 Dunfermine
Lots of good performances throughout the team, though the coaches agreed that today's captain, Duncan, deserved Man of the Match with his high work rate in both attack and defence.
