Good display of running rugby at Malleny Park

Dunfermline S1s enjoyed a trip across to Malleny Park for a return match with Currie. The match was played in some welcome sunshine, following heavy rain for the previous 2 days, but the top pitch at Malleny had held up well and allowed both sides to play expansive and entertaining rugby.
Dunfermline opened the score with an excellent move down the right flank, the ball passed well to the wing, before Finlee offloaded out of the tackle to Gregor on his inside, who stormed under the posts. This try was quickly followed by scores from Kian and Oskar (his first for the club), both following sweeping moves down the left. Currie struggled to deal with powerful runs from our bigger players due to a bit of a height mismatch in the midfield, but they kept playing ambitiously and were rewarded by a fine try from their pacey winger following a good handling move.
Kailo came on in the second period to take over the scrum half duties from Charlie, and did an excellent job of providing quality ball for Andrew, Duncan or Charlie (who were now rotating the stand-off and inside centre duties). Kian decided he had proven his point with his earlier barn-storming runs, and settled into a very effective passing game to bring Finlee and Oskar into the game, with Cameron making excellent runs into the line from fullback. The forwards were also working hard, Jai and Aidan delighting their ex-front row head coach with another good shift in the scrum and around the breakdown. Stand-in hooker Matthew F did well in the set piece and in the loose, and got his forwards to try some blind side moves from lineouts, Blair almost breaking through first time and Gregor making further ground on the next effort. Aidan was rewarded for his good handling and support play, with a try under the posts, Jack then found himself on the wing and finished a decent move, but was unlucky to have been held up in goal.
A good outing for the boys, and while scoring around 6 tries without response in the 2nd and 3rd periods, Currie continued to make us work for everything, with some great cover tackles out wide, and good attacks of their own to keep us focussed on our defence.
Thanks to our hosts for an entertaining match played in good spirits, well refereed to keep the game flowing, and for looking after us post-match.
